REVIEWS:
“Rainforest Frogs is a delightful book with a serious message. Frog populations have been declining worldwide at unprecedented rates which results in irreversible consequences to the earth’s ecosystems. This book brings to light a variety of frogs with wonderful illustrations by Mark Lerer. The Haiku poetry by Caley Vickerman is a creative introduction to each frog that is then followed with a more detailed, but brief paragraph of frog facts. Combining art and poetry is an effective and interesting way to educate. This imaginative book is appropriate for both children and adults and anyone who is interested in spreading the word about the importance of frogs.”
– Lee Muslin

“This book is enchanting! A fabulous read for the young and young-at-heart, it’s sure to become a favorite on your bookshelf. A toddler can enjoy it simply as a picture book while an adolescent, teen, or adult read aloud. Delightfully illustrated and with wonderful poetry, you’re sure to read again and again about the important role played in our world by these amazing creatures.”
– Bethe A. Schwartz

About Caley Vickerman, The Haiku Mistress:

Actor and Educator, Caley Vickerman, discovered haiku in 6th grade and (despite a brief obsession with magnetic poetry in high school) they remain to this day a favorite method of expression; simple, precise and immeasurably powerful.

It became her fervent wish to create events that celebrated haiku (and humanity). Thus the Guerilla Haiku Movement was born! And the Haiku Mistress gratefully continues to celebrate!

“In the last 24 years I’ve spent much of my time in studying the astonishing frogs of Madagascar, a country that is extraordinarily rich in amphibian species (more than 290 currently known, and many other candidate species), but that is also also dramatically fragile and delicate. In all these years I visited many of the country rainforests, savannahs and deserts, searching for herps and for documenting their status. Strangely (surprisingly!!) enough, we did not detect (yet?) any extinct Malagasy frog, although this perception may be misleading: the high number of species still to be described clearly advocates for the former existence (and probable extinction) of unknown species.”

Firenze University Press Book Review: Frogs, Amphibians and Their Threatened Environment – Discovery and Expression Through Art – K-3

Excerpt:
…In such a sense the book “built” (not only and not simply written) by Susan Newman is for me a real jewel. In many ways. This book is mainly destined to educators and provides a true roadmap to teach young readers and explorers the love for amphibians. Susan has coped her strong passion for frogs (she is the founder and the promoter of “Frogs Are Green”, a non profit organization created in 2009 to bring awareness to what’s happening on our planet, especially to the fact that frogs everywhere are disappearing: http://frogsaregreen.org/) with art. In such a way the aim of the organisation is to give kids the opportunity to learn about the environment, frogs and other amphibians, and to express themselves through art. In this way Susan’s love for science has been put together with the great and somehow innate interest that children (in this case up to the 3rd grade) have for frogs and drawings…
