It has been a challenging year for the entire world, and we hope that you are safe and healthy. A pandemic has changed life as we know it, and until scientists can discover and provide us with a vaccine, we must continue to modify our behavior.
We’ve been thinking for weeks about what this year’s kids art contest theme should be, and with COVID-19 affecting everyone, everywhere, we wanted to keep as broad a topic as we could, to remain positive.
This year’s theme is “A Healthy Planet Earth.” Below you will find these videos: “How to Save Our Planet,” “Kids Take Action Against Ocean Plastic,” “Air Pollution 101,” “World Rainforest Day 2020,” and of course, two videos on how to protect ourselves from catching COVID-19, one for younger children, “How To Teach Kids about COVID-19” and one more complex for older kids, “Dr. Anthony Fauci – Coronavirus Infections: More Than Just The Common Cold.”
As always, we hope children will be inspired and express what is most important to them. Whether they’re about rainforests, wildlife, or just wanting to be healthy and close to your friends and family, we look forward to your submissions.

We will award winners in these age groups: 3-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-17. We also add categories based on what we receive, such as: Best 3D; Best Environmental; Best Black and White and more. Award certificates are given to 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place and honorable mention students in each age group and specific category. *Prizes are awarded to ONLY the 1st place winners in the age group categories.
Deadline extended: December 31, 2020!
Deadline for submissions is: December 31, 2020 and the winners will be announced by January 31, 2021. The winners will be featured in a blog post. Many of the submitted artworks are shared online, through our website, social media and in awareness materials. (By entering, you grant Frogs Are Green permission to use your artwork for these purposes. Credit to artists will be included.)
1st Place Prizes:
The 1st place winners in each age group will receive these prizes: The custom designed “Frogs Are Green” Strawesome glass straw; their winning artwork on a t-shirt provided by Big Frog Custom Shirts; A custom Tote Bag from Abare Closet; and copies of Frogs Are Green‘s books.
To enter the contest, you join the kids art contest group (and the right age group) on Flickr and just upload your high resolution entries. Each child can submit up to 3 artworks. Teachers can upload student’s work and parents can upload their children’s work. If you are in a country where you cannot view Flickr, you can email your digital image to Frogs Are Green along with the child’s name, age and country, and we will add the image to the group. If you wish to see all the images in the gallery, you must join Flickr.
Each entry MUST INCLUDE the Child’s Full Name, Age, and Country (and a caption if you like) or your submission cannot be judged. Be sure your entry is facing upright and NOT sideways! You can easily edit and turn an artwork around once it’s on Flickr.

Mory Thomas has been cooking professionally for 22 years since graduating from the Institute of Culinary Education. Two years he spent on the line for Jean-Georges Vongerichten, before moving into recipe development and food styling for publishing giants; Martha Stewart Living and Food and Wine Magazine. After transforming how he sees and relates to food himself, Mory feels that his recipes for the Food Network Kitchens’ 5 cookbooks and countless web recipes have allowed him incredible opportunities. In 2016, Mory opened Square 1 Community Eatery in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood to bring his innovative yet casual menu into a place-making experiment to great accolades.
Mory founded the Washington Park Association of Hudson County, NJ, in 2008 with a group of residences in Jersey City and Union City in hopes of creating a greater sense of community. Mory feels parks can be a vehicle to help bring about change in your communities. As volunteer park stewards, residents can help seed a strong sense of ownership in the park. The WPA has helped bring in over 3 million dollars in funding for park improvements. Mory joined the Jersey City Parks Coalition (JCPC) board in 2010 and became vice-president in 2013. During Mory’s time on the board, the JCPC doubled its membership, took on sizeable citywide volunteer engagement programs, and established a memorandum of understanding with the City of Jersey City around decision-making for programs, parks renovations, master plans, grants, and forestry. Mory also has a BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College. In light of the 2020 pandemic, Mory co-founded the Hudson County Hunger Project. This program helps feed people experiencing food insecurity, provide jobs and regular revenue for local restaurants, and address some of our most vulnerable residents’ nutritional needs.
Kristin J. DeAngelis
Kristin J. DeAngelis has over 25 years of art, marketing and sales experience culminating with being owner, director and curator at 107 Bowers Gallery & ArtSpace.
As a gallery director, Kristin works with artists, galleries, interior designers and collectors. As an art educator, Kristin works with children under 12 years of age to bring out the Young Master within them. As an art advocate, Kristin coaches pre-emerging artists to get them focused and back on track to their creativity. She is a member of the Association for Women Art Dealers and The Jersey City Arts Council.
Kristin’s goal is to empower artists of any age to be successful in their goals. “Artists are the rock stars. I am just the roadie that is going to get them to their next gig.”
Carmine Tabone, Executive Director, Educational Arts Team
Executive Director of the Team, Carmine Tabone has been leading theater and education projects with young people since 1970. He has documented the effectiveness theater arts integration can have on academic and social student outcomes. Pop-Up Puppet Theater,” a puppet and literacy project increased the language arts test scores for over two thousand 4th grade students by 36.6%. Results from three USDOE Arts-in-Education grants (2005-2014) have shown that arts integration has a beneficial effect on academic outcomes for 2nd to 7th grade students. For this work in 2010 Carmine and three researchers from Seton Hall University received the AATE Research Award. He has also co-authored a book on drama education activities, as well as three handbooks with team teaching artists.
Santiago Cohen is a Mexican/American artist. He works as a designer, illustrator and animator and has written and illustrated more than 20 children’s books and graphic novels.
In Fine Art, he has had shows in galleries and museums in New York, New Jersey and Mexico. In 2014, he had a solo installation art show at the Hunterdon Art Museum. He has been the Artistic director of the Day of the Dead Parade for Jersey City since 2014.
His solo Show at the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, 2018, won a National Juried competition curated by Natalie Bell from the New Museum.
He was chosen as an artist in residency at UCROSS in Wyoming in 2019. He is represented by Art Productions New York.
Todd Radom is an independent graphic designer specializing in branding for professional sports franchises and events. Todd’s work includes the official logos for Super Bowl XXXVIII and the 2009 NBA All Star Game, as well as the graphic identities for Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels. Among the leading designers in the professional sports industry, his quarter century of work with the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball have resulted in some of the most familiar icons of our popular culture.
Born in New York City in 1964, Todd is a fourth-generation working artist. He has been inspired and intrigued by the iconography and visual culture of American sports, particularly baseball, since childhood. A series of his baseball ephemera themed illustrations was publicly exhibited in 1979, when he was only 15.
Todd attended the School of Visual Arts and received a BFA in Graphic Design, graduating in 1986. He set off on his own independent professional path in 1990 and has never looked back. In addition to his sports branding work, he continues to work on a range of projects, from poster and book jacket design to apparel design and corporate identity.
Todd is regarded as an expert on graphic design for professional sports, the aesthetics of baseball, and the dynamics of brand loyalty between consumers and professional sports franchises. He regularly speaks to design groups, professional conferences, and to colleges about his work and creative career. He has provided commentary about sports logos and branding for ESPN, National Public Radio, and the New York Times. In addition, he has been profiled or quoted in numerous publications including the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Tribune, Sports Illustrated, The Athletic, and Sporting News. Radom is the author of “Winning Ugly: A Visual History of Baseball’s Most Unique Uniforms,” and co-author of “Fabric of the Game: The Stories Behind the NHL’s Names, Logos, and Uniforms.” In 2015, Todd served as co-curator of “The Sports Show” at the SVA Chelsea Gallery in New York, a sports-themed gallery exhibition of more than 140 works from 32 different artists, representing a range of creative disciplines.
Todd currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the SVA Alumni Society. He also volunteers for the Baseball Assistance Team, an organization dedicated to assisting members of the professional baseball community who are in need.
Susanne Reece is a writer, illustrator, and visual essayist. She has always found the real world, its people and the other creatures in it, endlessly fascinating, stranger and more wonderful than fiction and her work draws history, literature, languages, art history, and natural history. Susanne has an MFA in Visual Narrative from the School of Visual Arts. She reads, writes, and draws in New York.
Erin A. DeLaney started taking pictures with her grandfather’s 1930s rangefinder 35mm camera in high school, then went on to study photography at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication. After graduation, she moved to New York City and worked in commercial photo labs before starting to freelance as a photographer and digital artist. She moved to the Heights section of Jersey City in 1999. She began exhibiting her photography in Jersey City in 2014 and 2015 in several group art shows. She also had a solo photo show “Urban Oasis: Photography in the Jersey City Reservoir” displayed at Jersey City City Hall in May, 2016. Her work can be seen on her website at ErinADeLaneyPhoto.com
Mark Lerer simultaneously inhabits the worlds of cartooning, illustration, and fine art. He holds an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art and has exhibited his drawings at New York City’s Nexus Gallery, Broome Street Gallery, Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery, and New Century Artists. He has also been delighting his friends with the adventures of The Little General (based on a concept by Andrew Coe) on Facebook, and most recently in a new full-color graphic novel.

Susan Newman Lerer, a brand visibility designer and environmentalist, is the founder of FROGS ARE GREEN and spends her days showing how she feels about the Earth and spreading the awareness that we need to save frogs, amphibians and all wildlife. She has authored 4 books and has two more in production..
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Susan spent her early career working as a graphic designer and art director for various NYC publishers, including Macmillan and Penguin. In 1994, she established her own design firm, Susan Newman Design, and builds brands near and far.
Susan has donated her design work to various organizations including: Save The Frogs, Parc Mitsinjo, ACSAM (A Conservation Strategy for the Amphibians of Madagascar), Hoboken 9/11 Memorial Committee, Jubilee Center Hoboken for Children, The Central Avenue Special Improvement District, Actors Shakespeare Company, Hudson Theatre Ensemble, and Pennsylvania Women’s Hall of Achievement.
